Ghost is a fashion label based in London that really fits their name. The clothing has a supernatural aesthetic that is often strived for, but rarely achieved in other labels. The typical Ghost fabric is lightweight, but solid. But it's not their typical fabric that interests me. Their Winter 2006 collection is stunning across the board, but it is more like a manifestation of dark spirits, rather than just a Ghost.

One of their most beautiful pieces is a suit which morphs from a drab grey on bottom to a deep, dark midnight grey on top. The collar of the jacket has a sheen, and it changes from being lapels into the front bodice piece of the jacket. It ties at the waist with a thick cord that has been wrapped around several times, and hangs to one side. The bottom is so undulating that it's hard to tell if it is trousersor a skirt, however it appears to be trousers. These are very high waisted pants, and they are a beautiful example of how to do a high waist. It elongates the entire outfit, and draws your attention to the pea green top that is barely peeking out from the jacket. The wide legs allow it to change form and mutate so that it is confused with a skirt when walking. That styling was necessary for this piece. The entire piece suggests a ghost materializing out of nothing, and having wide legs on the pants allows it to maintain that ever-changing appearance. This is just a beautiful piece that any girl would be lucky to have in her closet.

Another of their pieces is a solid winter white dress with a similarly coloured heavy knit wrap. This is paired with long dark leather gloves and dark shoes. The wrap is exquisite, with many different knitting patterns throughout it, as if it changes on a whim. The dress has a rounded front bodice piece, which has the appearance of a corset, but does not constrict and bind. Instead it merely follows therest of the garment, adding its shape, but never demanding that the rest of the garment follow it. The seams are fantastic. They curve down the dress, following no set pattern at all. But the fabric is the most beautiful aspect. Near the bottom, it looks as if it is rippling water. Each aspect of the dress has a life of its own, but it all cooperates and moves together, changing its shape with every step.

Overall, this collection is quite a success. There isn't a single piece that is unwearable, and they did an excellent job in predicting that Winter 2006 would be about the "skinny" look. Many of their pieces can transform to fit different occasions, and that's what makes it so wearable. I hope that this label receives more attention in the states, because their look would be phenomenal on the runway. They seem to be very in tune with what is coming in the future, and I predict great success for them.
