I've heard a lot about Feist these days - friends keep asking me, "Who is this Feist?", because she's all over the radio and she's often covered in the print media, too. Of course, we here at Swanktrendz recommended Feist as one to watch YEARS ago. Always ahead of the curve, we are...
But just in case you missed out before, here's a bit about Feist: born Leslie Feist in Nova Scotia, she was raised in both Saskatchewan and Alberta (but not simultaneously!). An early foray into the music scene was as lead singer for the Calgary punk bank Placebo (not to be confused with the British band Placebo); with them, she opened for notables like The Ramones.
Following a five year stint with Placebo, Feist moved to Toronto and became roommates with Peaches and Gonzales. She then spent two years in Berlin, and eventually ended up in Paris. Feist moved back to Canada in early 2007.
In the meantime, she worked with both Peaches and Gonzales, collaborated with Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience, sang on albums with New Deal and Apostle of Hustle, and was a member of Broken Social Scene.
Feist's single 'Mushaboom' has been used in ads for LaCoste perfume; she reportedly turned down an offer of $1 million from McDonald's to use the song in their latest ad campaign.
Feist is definitely someone still on the way up.
